The former mayor of Mexico City and flagbearer of the “Let’s keep making history” alliance, Claudia Sheinbaum, kicks off the Mexican presidential campaign with a 22-point lead over the opponent Xóchitl Gálvez, according to the latest survey by C&E Research, one of the most accurate polling firms in the Latin American scene in recent years.
According to C&E Research – which has had an accuracy rate of over 98% in past measurements in both Mexico and South and Central America – the candidate of the ruling party MORENA starts the campaign with 58% of effective voting intention, against 36% of the candidate of the opposition alliance “Strength and heart for Mexico”, Xóchitl Gálvez.
Interviewed regarding this new measurement, the CEO of this polling company that has been measuring the Mexican presidential pulse for over two years, Alejandro Rodríguez Ayala, said, “Claudia Sheinbaum’s advantage is not something new, as she has been leading the measurements for over two years. First within her party and against anyone who would become an opposition candidate, and now against Xóchitl Gálvez, who was just named the official aspirant, she was only 8 points behind Sheinbaum at one point, although over time and pre-campaigns, she lost points until reaching the current 22-point difference.”
In its new measurement, which guarantees a reliability of 95% and a margin of error of just 4%, C&E Research also details that 64% of its respondents assure that whatever happens in the next 3 months of the campaign, it will not change the direction of their vote.
In this survey, the third presidential candidate, Jorge Álvarez Maynes, also appears, who was launched into the contest by the Citizen Movement party and barely achieves 6% of the current effective votes.
But that’s not all. C&E Research details that regardless of whom Mexicans intend to vote for, 6 out of 10 have the feeling that Claudia Sheinbaum will win the election, something that according to Rodríguez Ayala, “Sheinbaum’s strategists have worked on over the past few months with error-free campaign events and a strong presence of the candidate in traditional and digital media, while on Xóchitl Gálvez’s side, voids and mistakes have been created and magnified.”
The Mexican presidential campaign will conclude on June 2nd, when 98 million Mexicans will go to the polls to choose among the 3 candidates who will appear on the ballot. Claudia Sheinbaum seeks to continue the work of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, while the opponent Xóchitl Gálvez seeks the return of the PAN and PRI parties, who governed before MORENA came to power just over 5 years ago.
